There's something I've been noticing for a while now, and it's getting harder to ignore.

Siempre hablamos de que la inteligencia artificial va a cambiar el mercado laboral, pero creo que el cambio ya ha empezado y no es exactamente el que imaginábamos. No veo una división entre quienes conservarán su trabajo y quienes lo perderán. Veo una brecha que crece, poco a poco, entre profesionales que hasta hace muy poco deberían estar al mismo nivel.

We always talk about how artificial intelligence is going to change the labor market, but I think the change has already begun, and it isn't quite the one we imagined. I don't see a divide between those who will keep their jobs and those who will lose them. I see a gap that keeps growing, little by little, between professionals who until very recently should have been at the same level.

The difference isn't about who has access to Claude, ChatGPT, or whichever model a given provider has just released. The difference is in how each person decides to use these tools.

Conozco personas que han convertido la IA en un multiplicador de su capacidad. Investigan más, aprenden más deprisa, cuestionan más ideas y son capaces de construir cosas que hace apenas un año ni siquiera habrían intentado. La herramienta no piensa por ellas; simplemente elimina fricción y les permite dedicar más tiempo a lo que realmente aporta valor.

I know people who have turned AI into a multiplier of their own ability. They research more, learn faster, question more ideas, and are capable of building things they wouldn't even have attempted a year ago. The tool doesn't think for them; it simply removes friction and frees up more time for what actually creates value.

Pero también veo el efecto contrario. Profesionales que utilizan la IA para obtener respuestas rápidas, redactar cualquier documento o resolver cualquier problema sin detenerse a pensar demasiado. A corto plazo parecen igual de productivos. Incluso más. Pero tengo la sensación de que, sin darse cuenta, están dejando de ejercitar precisamente la habilidad que más valor tendrá en los próximos años: el criterio.

But I also see the opposite effect: professionals who use AI to get quick answers, draft any document, or solve any problem without stopping to think much about it. In the short term they seem just as productive. Even more so. But my sense is that, without realizing it, they're losing practice in exactly the skill that will matter most in the years ahead: judgment.

Y creo que ahí está la verdadera paradoja.

And I think that's where the real paradox lies.

La misma herramienta que puede convertir a un buen profesional en alguien excepcional también puede hacer que otro se quede cada vez más atrás, ya sea porque decide ignorarla o porque ha dejado de cuestionar y comprender las respuestas que recibe.

The same tool that can turn a good professional into an exceptional one can also leave someone else further and further behind — whether because they choose to ignore it, or because they've stopped questioning and understanding the answers it gives them.

Artificial intelligence amplifies. It doesn't replace.

Amplifica la curiosidad, porque aprender nunca había sido tan accesible. Amplifica la iniciativa, porque construir nunca había sido tan fácil. Pero también amplía la distancia con quienes deciden ignorarla o limitarse a utilizarla como un buscador más sofisticado.

It amplifies curiosity, because learning has never been this accessible. It amplifies initiative, because building has never been this easy. But it also widens the distance from those who choose to ignore it, or who limit themselves to using it as a slightly more sophisticated search engine.

La inteligencia artificial no está sustituyendo a los profesionales. Está haciendo que quienes saben aprovecharla mejoren más deprisa que nunca, mientras que la distancia con quienes no se adapten no deja de crecer.

Artificial intelligence isn't replacing professionals. It's making those who know how to use it improve faster than ever, while the distance from those who don't adapt keeps growing.
